Ala Carte is CASH ONLY
Ala carte snack items will be sold as a cash only sale. Soup, cheese or yogurt sticks, and pre-ordered ala carte items can be charged to your lunch account.

Free and Reduced Applications
By qualifying for lunch benefits you may also qualify for other reductions in school fees. Qualifying applications generate much-needed educational funds for all of our schools. You may submit a printed or online application. A new application must be submitted each year, unless you have received notice that your child(ren) have been approved through direct certification for the current school year. Please complete and return applications as soon as possible.

Free Meals
Our school offers healthy meals each day and participates in the Minnesota’s Free School Meals Program. All students can get one breakfast and one lunch free of charge each day at school. Although no application is required to receive this free meal benefit, filling out the Application for Educational Benefits is still important! Your child(ren) may qualify for other benefits like reduced fees at school. Your application may also help the school qualify for education funds, discounts, and other meal programs.

Biometric Finger Scanning
Lakeview uses a biometric finger scanning identification program. This system improves security for your child's lunch account. Is this a fingerprint? No, fingerprint images are NEVER stored in the system, and therefore cannot be hacked or otherwise shared. The finger scan scanner simply creates anumerical representation through aseries of unique points. There is no way afingerprint expert or anyone else can take this numerical representation and reconstruct afingerprint. In fact, the data collected from the scan is useless for any other purpose. At no time is afingerprint image stored.

Delinquent Accounts
Students have use of a family meal account. When the balance reaches zero, a student may charge no more than $10.00 times the number of enrolled Lakeview students in the family for a full price student to this account. When an account reaches this limit, a student shall not be allowed to charge further meals or a la carte items until the negative account balance is paid. Families may add money to the student lunch account by paying online atwww.lakeview.epaytrak.com(click on red apple) or by paying directly at the school office.

Negative balances of more than $10.00 times the number of enrolled Lakeview students in the family for sixty consecutive days, will be turned over to the superintendent or superintendent’s designee for collection. Collection options may include, but are not limited to, use of collection agencies, claims in the conciliation court, or any other legal method permitted by law. If the delinquent debt is turned over to a collection agency, the school can no longer be paid for that debt. The debt belongs to the collection agency and will be collected by them. Any payments made to the school district will apply to future purchases. The school district may not enlist the assistance of non-school district employees, such as volunteers, to engage in debt collection efforts. Please refer to Policy #534 – Unpaid Meal Charges on the school website.

Special Diet and Allergies
Aspecial diet medical statement needs to be completed upon special diet diagnosis and updated whenever the student diagnosis or special diet changes. Turn in special diet request to the school nurse or kitchen manager. Upon written request from a parent, Lakeview School will provide lactose free milk. If your child requires lactose free milk, please contact Kitchen Manager at 507-423-5164 Ext. 1350.

After School Sack Lunches
The Sack Lunch Program was designed for students involved in after school activities (i.e. Music, Art, Athletics, Drama, etc.) or events that require students to leave school early and nutritious food options are not available.

• Sack lunches will be charged to the student’s lunch account once the order has been made.
• Students may sign up for a Sack Lunch if their lunch account has money to cover the lunch cost outside the kitchen no later than 11:00 am on the day needed.
• It is the student’s responsibility to pick up their order.(Orders made and not picked up will still be charged.)
• Sack lunches will be available for pick up before your activity begins (i.e. bus leaves for a meet at 2:00) or after school until 3:30.

This is not a replacement for the hot school lunch; it is intended as an afternoon or early evening healthy nutrition choice.

Breakfast
Breakfast will be served from 7:45 am - 8:10 am. Breakfast is free as long as you take a complete meal. Certain menu items are considered more than one item, such as pizza. Your child must also take a fruit or fruit juice for breakfast for the meal to be considered complete.

Extra Food
If your meal is not complete as defined below, additional items (i.e. second piece of pizza) will be charged ala carte prices. If you take a complete second meal, the cost of that second meal is the same as an adult meal (pricing below).

Last Chance Breakfast (Grades 7-12 Only)
Breakfast may be the most important meal of the day, but it's not always the most convenient. Lakeview offers a last chance breakfast program. Last chance breakfast is served after first hour each day. Students will be able to grab a quick meal during passing time. Only one breakfast is free per day, if a student eats both the before school breakfast and the last chance breakfast, they will be charged for one breakfast.

There are many reasons why students don't eat breakfast before the school day. Some simply aren’t hungry first thing in the morning, others are busy with before school activities and don’t have time, and many don’t have food at home. Many kids who don’t eat breakfast struggle to stay alert in class. The last chance breakfast gives them a much needed pick-me-up to help focus on learning. Studies show that good nutrition leads to improved attendance and classroom performance, higher test scores and better behavior.

Food Based – Offer versus Serve Explanation

Lunch
Your child must take 3 of the 5 components presented at lunch to qualify for a complete meal. If they do not take the three required components, they will be charged ala carte prices. One of the three components must be a fruit or vegetable to qualify for the complete meal. Your child can select or decline certain components, but if the components they choose do not make a complete meal, they will be charged ala carte prices.
Milk
Fruit (a fruit or vegetable must be taken for the meal to be considered as a complete meal)
Meat or Meat Alternative
Bread or Grains
Vegetable (a vegetable or fruit must be taken for the meal to be considered as a complete meal)

Breakfast
For your child's breakfast to be a complete meal, it needs at least 3 different items - one of the three must be a fruit or juice. If your child takes only 1 or 2 items on the menu, that is not considered a complete meal, and he/she WILL be charged for each item he/she takes. Chart available below.
