Eleanor J. Baker

Eleanor J. Baker, 64, of 30 Avalon Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1997, at Garlock Memorial Home, Hagerstown.

Born Feb. 17, 1932, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Grace C. Carlisle Stout.

She was a member of Christ Reformed Church.

She is survived by her husband, Fay E. Baker; three daughters, Cathie J. Bowers, Renee M. Atha and Lisa D. Baker, all of Hagerstown; three sons, Kevin E. Baker, Robert K. Baker and Brent A. Baker, all of Hagerstown; one sister, Donna M. Bowman of Hagerstown; two brothers, James C. Stout of Hagerstown and Preston L. Stout of Smithsburg; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.

The Rev. Don R. Stevenson will officiate.

Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

W. Kenneth Wasson

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - W. Kenneth Wasson, 73, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1997, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.

Born Aug. 11, 1923, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late John D. and Biddie McCarty Wasson.

He retired as manager of Shenandoah's Pride Dairy and formerly was employed by Fairchild Aircraft.

He also was employed by Superior Dairy.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jane Clark Wasson; four daughters, Barbara Dugan and Norma Jean Dugan, both of Glengary, W.Va., Shelli J. Gregory of Martinsburg, and Kenda J. Wasson of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; one son, Kenneth David Wasson of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; three brothers, John Wasson and Paul Wasson, both of Martinsburg, and Frank Wasson of Williamsport; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Bernard "Bud" Wasson, Charles Wasson, Taylor Wasson and Howard Wasson; and two sisters, Imogene Chambers and Leona Wasson.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg.

The Rev. James R. Jackson will officiate.

Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery in Martinsburg.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Leroy B. Spriggs

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Leroy Brenton Spriggs, 58, of Berkeley Springs, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1997, at his home.

Born Oct. 2, 1938, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles Brenton and Edith Pearl Crone Spriggs.

He attended Duckwall School, Mt. Vernon School and Berkeley Springs High School, all in Berkeley Springs.

He was a sawyer, excavator and owner and operator of Leroy B. Spriggs Excavating in Berkeley Springs.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He is survived by one daughter, Lita A. Combs of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; two sons, Steven B. Spriggs of Berkeley Springs and Richard A. Spriggs of Jonesville, N.C.; one sister, Eleanor D. Harden of Hanco*ck; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one niece; one nephew; two great-nieces; and three great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Peggy Spriggs.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs.

The Rev. Hennis H. Fox and the Rev. Steven R. Dawson will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.

The family will receive friends at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral home will be open today from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.

Gilbert L. Staubs Sr.

SILVER GROVE, W.Va. - Gilbert Louis Staubs Sr., 84, of Silver Grove, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997, at his home.

Born June 21, 1912, in Harpers Ferry, W.Va., he was the son of the late Louis Henson and Leona Belle Ingram Staubs.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Horn Staubs, in 1989.

He retired after 22 years of service from Armco Steel Co., Baltimore.

A 12 1/2-year veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II.

He was of the Methodist faith.

He was a member of VFW Post 3522, Charles Town, W.Va.; Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1299, Carlisle, Pa., and Senior Bowling League of Shenandoah Lanes, Charles Town.

He is survived by two daughters, Mary Ellen Showalter of Baltimore and Ann Marie Staubs of Charles Town; three sons, Gilbert L. Staubs Jr. of Harpers Ferry, John M. Staubs and Kenneth L. Staubs, both of Silver Grove, W.Va.; three sisters, Ellen Cole and Gloria Seal, both of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Beulah Billman of Carlisle, Pa.; six brothers, Paul Staubs of Loudoun Heights, Va., Roland Staubs of Shamokin, Pa., Vernon Staubs and Donald Staubs, both of Bunker Hill, Raymond Staubs and Harold Staubs, both of Silver Grove; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren.

Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry.

The Rev. Henry L. Fisher will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery, Mt. Holly, Pa.

The family will receive friends Saturday and Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Anna K. Hawvermale

ANNANDALE, Va. - Anna Katherine Hawvermale, 89, of Annandale, and formerly of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997, at Alexandria Hospital, Alexandria, Va.

Born March 31, 1907, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Joseph P. and Bertha I. Rockwell Hawvermale.

She was a former school teacher in Morgan County, W.Va.

She retired as an administrative assistant with the National Institute of Mental Hygiene, Washington, D.C.

She is survived by three great-nieces and four great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Nellie Hawvermale, Margaret Ryan, Marie Hawvermale and Jennie Harmison; and three brothers, Silas Hawvermale, Joseph Hawvermale and John Hawvermale.

Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer St., Berkeley Springs.

The Rev. E. Dwight Byrne will officiate.

Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.

Friends may call Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pauline M. Gabriel

The family of Pauline M. Gabriel, 74, formerly of 10917 Clinton Ave., Hagerstown, who died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997, at Colton Villa Nursing Home, will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Kenneth W. Tressler

EMMITSBURG, Md. - Kenneth W. Tressler, 52, of Emmitsburg, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997, at his home.

Born Jan. 9, 1945, in Gettysburg, Pa., he was the son of Frances E. Rider Tressler of Emmitsburg, and the late Walter Tressler.

He was employed in the engineering department of Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro, Pa., from 1963 to 1996.

He was a member of Eyler's Valley Chapel.

He also was a member of Northwestern Frederick County Civic Association. He was an antique car collector.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one sister, Martha Carbaugh of Sabillasville, Md.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Monahan Funeral Home, 27 E. Main St., Fairfield, Pa.

The Rev. Kenneth C. Hamrick will officiate.

Burial will be in Fairfield Union Cemetery.

Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, Md. 21702, or the charity of the donor's choice.

Hazel Jordan

BALTIMORE - Hazel Jordan, of Baltimore, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Friday, Jan. 10, 1997, in Baltimore.

She was the daughter of the late Albert Mazingo and Lottie Thomas.

She is survived by three children, Ernest Jordan of Cumberland, Md., Denise Thatcher and Kerry Stiltner, both of Baltimore; one sister, Helen Sickler of Baltimore; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Baltimore.
