On the home stretch to the maiden flight of the European launcher #Ariane6 🚀, European industrial leaders met at the 11th Industrial Days at Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V. in Lampoldshausen. Together with Toni Tolker-Nielsen and Martin Sion, our CEO Ulrich Scheib discussed the current state and perspective of European access to space.This access to space is important as it enables Europe's #sovereignty, economic growth, climate protection and scientific discoveries. Space provides access to resources such as water and metals that could be important for the future of our planet and forms the basis for future technologies and innovations that will improve our daily lives.This is why the launch of Ariane 6 is more important than ever for Europe, and we are keeping our fingers crossed for a successful launch this summer. The ICARUS consortium, led by Deimos, has secured €15 million in EU funding to develop an inflatable heat shield for recovering rocket stages and preparing for #Mars missions. 🚀👩🚀This project includes ATMOS Space Cargo German Aerospace Center (DLR) CIRA Pangaia Grado Zero Srl ONERA - The French Aerospace Lab, Politecnico di Torino and Demcon high-tech systems as partners.Kicking off in June 2024, ICARUS will proceed through mission design, flight tests and post-flight analysis over the next four years. Ready for take off? 🚀 #Ariane6 certainly was – and we came, too. Or to be precise, materials supplied by us. Yesterday was the inaugural flight for the next generation of the Ariane launch vehicle family. And we’re happy to say that our colleagues from thyssenkrupp Aerospace supplied aluminum plates for the thrust frame at the core stage and Vinci Thrust Frame (VITF). The venture provided material for the most powerful European expendable launch system of today. Space projects are still quite the challenge: They require state-of-the-art technologies and its materials must be extremely resilient in order to withstand extreme conditions in #space and during space travel. 💪
